Microcurrent therapy
Microcurrent is a clinically tested therapy treatment, which is used mostly for toning, contouring, and firming of facial aging skin. Essentially, microcurrent treatment consists in the application of a low-level current that mimics the body’s natural current providing both instant and cumulative anti-aging results. The applied currents are so low, that they mostly work sub-sensory, and as a result, the treatment is soothing and most patients don’t even feel it. Microcurrent therapy involves the use of a safe and effective technology suitable for those who wish to achieve and preserve a healthier, younger looking skin appearance. Sometimes the results are so dramatic that this treatment is frequently denoted as the “five Minute Facial Lift”.
Microcurrent has been used for more than 30 years now. The term “micro” suggest current on the level of microamperes (a million part of an ampere). This kind of treatment was originally approved by the FDA as a nerve stimulator for pain relief. With the discovery of microcurrent therapy treatments and their low-level current retraining the patient’s muscles, the FDA approved muscle stimulator provided a new anti-aging application for the cosmetology industry.
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is an organic compound and hydrotrope that delivers energy to drive processes in living cells, like muscle contraction, condensate dissolution, nerve impulse propagation and chemical synthesis. Found in all known forms of life, ATP is often referred to as the molecular “unit of currency” of intracellular energy transfer.
Microcurrent has been shown to increase ATP concentration and protein synthesis while promoting amino acid uptake. ATP drives the creation of key structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin, and is the biochemical way to store and use energy. Microcurrent is capable of facial stimulation, sending soft, gentle waves through the skin, tissues and down to the facial muscles. Collagen makes up one-third of a total protein and its auxiliary job can be promptly valued by its bounty in skin, tendon, bone and cartilage. Elastin provides the recoil necessary in tissues such as skin, and certain ligaments.
This increased ATP also energizes the facial muscles, similar to how exercise energizes the muscles of our bodies. Unlike anywhere else on the body, the facial muscles are directly connected to the skin, so the result of energizing the muscle is often an improved, lifted appearance.
MicroCurrent mimics the electrical signals from the brain to the message center of the muscle, which is the tendon, the MicroCurrent stimulates the tendon thus aiding in strengthening the muscles by bringing more definition to the face and body. By reproducing the body’s own biological current, we can re-establish muscle memory naturally.
